Three Commentaries

The ‘Three Commentaries’ for string quartet were composed based on my ‘Three Questions for String Orchestra and Conductor’ composed nearly 10 years ago. The ‘Three Commentaries’ for string quartet are a musical attempt to comment on these three questions 10 years later (view three questions for string orchestra and conductor). They are:
1. On the identity of ‘d’
2. On the existence of ‘d’
3. On the origin of ‘d’
The first considers the identity of ‘d’ on the violins and cello, while the viola interjects offering ‘e-flat’ as a solution.
The second tries to tie the random events of life together.
The third seeks to connect the externally perceived notion of nationality with my personal feeling towards my Brazilian heritage.
